Class 10 Skypes America

This afternoon we had the fantastic experience of Skyping a class of American school children.  We had arranged to Skype each other to learn more about our schools, homes, hobbies and day to day lives.

The time difference between the two classes was 5 hours so for us it was 1:45pm and in America it was 8:45am the start of their school day.  All of the children involved had a fantastic time and we all learnt so much about each other.

A huge thank you to Mrs Schmidt and her class in Pennsylvania for taking time out of their morning lessons to talk to us.  Keep watching as this is only the start for Class 10 and their Skyping experiences but we have posted a few videos to give you a taste of what happened and what Skyping is like.

Cricket Crazy

Year 5 have been enjoying more cricket in the hall today. Our cricket coach Richard has been helping us to improve our over arm bowling techniques. We divided into two teams. One team was the batting team and the other the fielding team. We all showed amazing team spirit. Both teams racked up some impressive batting scores!

Going Wild again!

Work is continuing on our Wild Art Project.  We are now starting work on the largest piece of sculpture that we have ever attempted.  The children are helping to cover the structure in Modroc, which takes a lot of concentration and is very messy.

Can you guess what it is yet?

We will keep updating you on our progress.

Lets Skype

On Thursday afternoon Class 10 will be Skyping with a Mrs Schmidt’s 3rd Grade Class at St Ignatius School,  Pennsylvania USA.

Miss Oxlade made the link with the class because she is mentoring some of their students in the Student Blogging  Challenge 2012 – Challenge yourself to Blog http://studentchallenge.edublogs.org/

On Thursday afternoon we will be Skyping with Mrs Schmidt and her class.  Mrs Schmidt and I have been e-mailing and we have decided that we could talk about our school (name, size, location), our hobbies, sports we play or watch, our town, our money system (show examples of money on the webcam), our flag, famous places and people from our country, our weather, animals from our area, etc.

So Class 10 if any of you read this before I see you on Monday afternoon get your thinking caps on and come up with some ideas about what you would like to talk about.  Mrs Schmidt and I would like everyone to have a turn in speaking and explaining something.  If you need any ideas take a look at Mrs Schmidt’s blog of a previous Skype session she has done with a school in Ashby de la Zouch.

Where in the World?

I have just logged onto blog about a special event for Class 10 on Thursday (more to follow) when I took a quick look at our blog cluster map.  It shows us where in the world all of our blog visitors come from.  Take a look (click on the cluster map on the right of the page) and you will be amazed at how far our blog is now reaching.

Well done Class 10 keep up the blogging.

Ecton Brook goes Wild!!!

This week we have started our entry for the Wild in Art Safari Northampton Event. This is a similar event to the one that we took part in a couple of years ago when we decorated a lion for the Pride of Northampton.

This year Northampton are holding a Safari in the town centre and a range of wild animal sculptures will be on display around the town and within the Grosvenor Centre. We have chosen a gorilla and have started to decorate him. All of the children within the school will have helped to decorate and make our entry very special.

Although we can’t give away our top secret idea just yet, we can show you how far we have got and some of the elements of our sculpture. Our sculpture will be on display in the Grosvenor Centre from the 16th of June, so look out for him in the Grosvenor Centre when you are in town shopping. I am sure that you won’t be able to miss him!!!

Get Caught reading!

This morning in Year 5 we decided to magpie an idea from Miss Follands class. We started the morning with quiet, independent reading to see how long we could read for whilst sitting still and quiet. We wanted to see if we could break Miss Follands class record of just over 26 minutes. As a year group we have decided that we liked this start to the morning. We were able to read books that we had chosen and were interested in, sustained reading over an extended period of time and enjoyed the silence! We were able to read for 32 minutes and only stopped because Mrs Willetts had lots of other tasks for us to do and actually wanted to carry on as we were enjoying our reading so much. We would certainly like to do this activity again soon and thought that we would like to bring the book that we are reading at home to school to continue reading our own books. We think that we could extend our time and will let you know our new time when we do it again.
